چکیده

In most collections of segmental speech errors, exchanges are less frequent than anticipations and perseverations. However, it has been suggested that in inner speech exchanges might be more frequent than either anticipations or perseverations, because many halfway repaired errors (Yew. . .uhh..New York) are classified as repaired anticipations, but may equally well be half-way repaired exchanges. In this paper it is demonstrated for experimentally elicited speech errors that indeed in inner speech exchanges are more frequent than anticipations and perseverations. The predominance of exchanges can be explained by assuming a mechanism of planning and serial ordering segments during the generation of speech that is qualitatively similar to the scan-copier model proposed by Shattuck-Hufnagel (Sublexical units and suprasegmental structure in speech production planning. In P.F. MacNeilage (Ed.), The production of speech (pp. 109–136). New York:

Repeated phoneme effect in Japanese speech errors

Analyses of errors in the natural speech of Dutch, German, and English have shown that involuntary rearrangements of phonemes (e.g., left hemisphere heft lemisphere) are more likely to occur when the two words involved in the error have the same phoneme before or after the phoneme on which the error occurred (e.g., /Ε/ in left hemisphere) [1, 2]. A study by Dell (1984) has revealed that phoneme...

Word onsets and speech errors. Explaining relative frequencies of segmental substitutions

Consonants in word onsets are, in English and Dutch, more frequently misspoken than consonants in other positions, and also more frequently than expected from the relative numbers of onset consonants and other consonants. We argue here that relative numbers of segments in specific positions in the word is not a valid predictor of relative frequencies of segmental speech errors. A more valid pre...

Consonant-vowel cohesiveness in speech production as revealed by initial and final consonant exchanges

Two experiments use a procedure developed by Carter and Bradshaw (1984) to examine the role of syllable structure in speech production. In the procedure, subjects exchange phonological segments in corresponding positions of a pair of visuallypresented words or nonwords and to produce the resulting words or nonwords as quickly as possible. Carter and Bradshaw had shown that the pattern of latenc...

Comparing segmental features and phonological processes of both languages helped teachers to predict the target errors. To reach such a goa...
